If You're A Composer, We'd Like To Hear From You

We're always on the look out for the very best composers to work with. Our passion is great music.

There are two ways that you can work with us:

  • Inclusion In The Cinephonix Music Library
  • Use Of Our Innovative Composer Deal-maker Helpline
 We've set out some details on each below. Feel free to contact us to chat further.

Inclusion in the Cinephonix Music Library

Cinephonix is a production music service with a difference. We’re passionate about:
  • High quality music, only available exclusively through us;
  • Simple, straightforward licensing, making it easy for customers to buy and use our music;
  • Outstanding personal service.
Our music catalogue is exclusive to Cinephonix, our customers won’t find our tracks anywhere else. We have deliberately steered away from the non-exclusive “pile it high, sell it cheap” model that other online music libraries have followed. Our philosophy is to focus on quality music, coupled with excellent service, which ensures our customers use us time and again.

What are our terms?
As we mentioned, our aim is to only promote music that can be made available exclusively to us. We recognise that allowing us exclusive use of your music has a risk to you: “What it they don’t use it?” “What if it never gets downloaded?” These are quite correct concerns for a composer. Firstly, you decide which tracks you want to give us. We only have exclusive rights over the specific tracks you assign us - any other music is yours to do what you like with. What's more, we have developed an innovative structure whereby your music automatically reverts back to you if it doesn't get used. So it won't be "sitting on a shelf gathering dust" for years on end. If the music does revert back to you, you're free to do deals and exploit it with anyone else you choose.

Why do we do this?
Well, why do we want music in our catalogue that we can’t sell? And why should you lose the use of your tracks if we’re not able to sell them? We think this is a fair system. If we’re selling your music, we’re both happy. If we’re not, we tried our best, but you can have it back.

What sort of music are we looking for?
Quality is the key! We’re selective, and we don’t over fill a particular genre of music just because it’s available to us. Our belief is that you should write in the style that you’re most comfortable, enthusiastic and familiar with, as this will produce your best work – and that’s what we want to hear.

Composer Deal-maker Helpline

We launched this after our composers said they really wanted help on closing deals from time to time.

The Concept:
We've all been in this situation. The phone call comes in. It's a job you really want. How do you play hard ball for a higher fee while at the same time expressing bags of enthusiasm for a job you'd kill to do? And what about buyouts, royalty shares, non proceed fees? Deal making is tricky, that's why people have agents. But then agents want a cut of everything you earn - even when the production calls you up direct - you can't choose to pay your agent on some jobs, but not on others. So, we launched the Composer Dealmaker Helpline. If you need some help negotiating on a new job, call us up, give us the details and we'll negotiate directly with the producers and get you the best deal possible. Sometimes having a representative close a deal for you can get you better terms and help you maintain a great creative relationship with your client.

How It Works:
It's simple and the choice to use us or not is always in your hands. Sometimes, getting a regular commission and doing a regular deal is easy. You can probably do 75% of deals on your own and you don't need to get help from anyone else. The Composer Dealmaker Helpline is for those 25% of jobs that are a little more tricky. Maybe you don't entirely trust the production company. Maybe it's a big deal and you want to make sure its the best deal you can get. In those cases, you can call us up and we'll work to close the deal on your behalf, leaving you to focus on the creative brief.

What Are The Costs:
We've kept the costs simple. We take a 15% commission on the fee you get for the job. If the value of the job is less that $1,500 or £1,000 we charge a flat fee of £200. The service isn't really designed for these smaller jobs and you can probably do them yourselves. But we'd be happy to help you out with one or two it you want. That's it. Simple. If the deal doesn't happen, you don't pay us a penny.
