With the January blues out of the way and the new 50 Shades film out on 10th February, we thought it would only be appropriate to share our top 5 movie love songs with you. These tracks have become some of the most iconic romantic tunes in history, so let's take a break from the sultry side of things and take a look at the more amorous affairs to awaken your Valentine's Day passion.
5) Unchained Melody – The Righteous Brothers – Ghost
To start off the list, our 5th spot is given to The Righteous Brothers for the song that gave them the Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals; Unchained Melody. The song itself was written in 1955, but has since had over 1,500 recordings made by more than 670 artists. One of the most notable recordings is that by the Righteous Brothers, which was featured in the 1990 film ‘Ghost’. Its popularity after being in the film is what lets it into our Top 5. 4) Take My Breath Away - Berlin - Top Gun
Following on, we have Berlin’s Academy Award winner, ‘Take My Breath Away’. The song was written for ‘Top Gun’, a romantic military action film that won over 9 awards. The song topped the charts in Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, The Republic of Ireland and Belgium. The Top Gun soundtrack is one of the most popular soundtracks to date, so we couldn’t let this one slip away. Listen to the song below.
3) (I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life – Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes – Dirty Dancing
Next, we have the Academy, Grammy and Golden Globe winner that was used as the theme song for the all time classic – ‘Dirty Dancing’. Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes performed the track, which became a worldwide hit after featuring in the film during the unforgettable final dance scene. The song was composed in 1987, the same year that the popular film was released. The song has won many awards and remains a popular first dance song, so we had to include it in our list. 2) I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston - The Bodyguard
Whitney Houston takes up our next spot, with the famous power ballad ‘I Will Always Love You’. The song was originally written and recorded by Dolly Parton, but in 1992, Whitney recorded a cover version for The Bodyguard; this version was a massive, worldwide success. The song has since become one of the best-selling singles of all time, and spent an incredible 14 weeks at number one. Take a look at our runner up below.
1) My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion – Titanic
Our final and top spot is awarded to Celine Dion for the incredible ‘My Heart Will Go On’, theme song to the blockbuster ‘Titanic’. The song became Celine’s signature hit and remains one of the best-selling singles of all time, and was even named the world’s best-selling single of 1998. The phenomenal success and popularity of this song has granted it the top position on our Top 5 Iconic Movie Love Songs! Check out the ballad below;
